Are you planning your sailing holiday in Greece? Then the Sporades Islands is the perfect place for you. It is located along the Pelion Peninsula in the Aegean Sea. At present, the islands have became a popular tourist destination because of its dappled pine forests. Aside from this, it also has one of the country's cleanest and bluest coastal beaches.
The four main islands attract different types of crowd. For instance, the island of Skiathos is the favorite destination of party animals and young hippies because of its intense nightlife (from discos and music bars) and beautiful beaches. In fact, the island boasts as having the most stunning beaches in the Mediterranean. Aside from this, Skiathos also has dazzling coves.
On the other hand, the island of Skopelos is for tourists who wanted to see Greece's typical quality; that is, the country and people's natural way of life. Skopelos offers its visitors with historical and traditional tourist spots. Some of these include the Skopelos Town port (which has a beautiful and paved street) and the Glossa. On the island's wooded interior are its aged stone houses and historical monasteries. This forested area was once the island's center of its prune industry.
Meanwhile the Alonissos Island is for vacationers who wanted to have rest and tranquility. The island has been characterized from the group because of its quietness. It is located at the center of the Sporades Islands. This is the sanctuary of the rare Mediterranean monk seals.
A sailing holiday in Greece is a wonderful experience when you are in Sporades Islands. Also, a handful of ports can be used during your sailing holiday. These include the Skyros' Linaria port, Alonissos' Patitiri port, Skopelos port, and the Skiathos port. There are also secondary harbors such as the Steni Vala port and the Loutraki port that can be used.
Alonissos main port and capital town is Patitiri. This is also one of the most populated islands in the Sporades. At present, Patitiri now is not what it used to be. The old Patitiri was destroyed in 1965 when a powerful earthquake hit the island. There are many interesting stuffs in the island. These include its whitewashed streets, unique marble formations, and pine forest. Several beaches, cafes, and restaurants are also in Patitiri.
